How to Make Your New Years Resolution Work

Posted by Esther Maris on

Hello, 2018! Let's make this year, your year.

We just bid farewell to the good old, 2017. Now that a new chapter in our lives just opened, we know that most of us are eager to make ourselves "better." This is when resolutions come in.

It's undeniable that some of our New Years Resolutions have been planned since 2013 and left undone since 2015. To prevent going to the same cycle again, we prepared tips on how to make your new year's resolution work.

TIP # 1 - START SMALL

One reason why our goals can't be achieved is that they're too many. Having several goals within a year can be overwhelming. So, instead of listing down 10 resolutions, start with at least 3. After you achieved the first 3, then it's the time you can add more.

TIP # 2 - BE SPECIFIC

Aside from having too many resolutions, another hindrance in achieving your goals is that they're broad. Be more specific with your goal. For example, instead of writing - "Be Healthier" or "Save more money", you should write "Walk at 3 times a week" or "Deposit $50 once a week."

Goals that are small and specific will allow you to have a proper mindset.

TIP # 3 - FIND A BUDDY

This tip is only optional. However, if your goal is something that takes a lot of time and determination, it's better if you have someone or people who can be your support system. You can both encourage each other to keep pursuing your goal.

TIP # 4 - KEEP TRACK OF YOUR PROGRESS

Seeing your progress will give you a sense of pride which will push you more to continue achieving your goals. Listing down your progress each day in a little notebook is already a big help.

TIP # 5 - REWARD YOURSELF

Last but not the least is don't be too hard on yourself and reward yourself once in a while. Make your goal achieving endeavor fun!
